With today being Martin Luther King Day, many people are reflecting on what they can do to make our community and world a better place. We at Project Interfaith believe that becoming more informed and engaged on the issues confronting our community and world is the first step to being able to make a positive difference and have programs this February that give you the opportunity to do just this. February 4: Holocaust Survivor Gerda Weissmann Klein
To start, we invite you to be a part of an evening of inspiration and education on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 7 pm at Countryside Community Church (8787 Pacific Street). Hear Holocaust Survivor and Academy Award winner Gerda Weissmann Klein deliver a powerful message of hope, inspiration, and humanity as she shares her wealth of life experiences from surviving the Holocaust and meeting her future husband on the day of her liberation to accepting an Oscar and Emmy for a documentary based on her life to her constant fight to promote tolerance, encourage community service and combat hunger.This program is free and open to the public but registration is required. February 23: Internationally-Acclaimed Islam Expert Dr. John Esposito
No doubt you've heard a lot about Islam in the media these days but want to cut through the myths and get the facts about this religion, the most pressing issues occuring within Islam today and how Christian-Muslim relations are evolving in the 21st Century?
Then join us on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 7 pm at the Scott Conference Center (6450 Pine Street) for a captivating evening with Dr. John Esposito, one of the most respected and widely-known scholars and authors on Islam and the Founding Director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. In this Community Conversation on Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations in the 21st Century, Dr. Esposito will explore the most critical issues occurring within Islam today and will highlight some of the major milestones, opportunities and challenges confronting Christian-Muslim relations today. Following his community presentation, Dr. Esposito will take questions from the audience. A light reception will be held after his talk where Dr. Esposito will sign books and will be available to meet audience members. The Bookworm Bookstore will be selling his books at this event.
This program is open to the public and is jointly presented by Project Interfaith, the Islamic Center of Omaha, the UNO College of Public Affairs and Community Service and the Fr. Henry W. Casper Professorship in History at Creighton University.
A suggested donation of $10 per ticket is requested of attendees except students with valid students IDs. Registration is strongly encouraged as space is limited.
